Osibisa, Ibibio Sound Machine… and me!

Recording the songs for my Adinkra EP has been an amazing process… it’s been a long held dream of mine to bring together traditional Ghanaian percussion and soul vocals in my own unique style.

The icing on the cake for me though was that the legendary guitarist, considered to be the very best in Ghana, Kari Bannerman, joined me in the studio to play on two of the tracks on my new EP. Kari played in Ghana’s world-famous group, Osibisa, and currently plays guitar in the wonderful band making waves far and wide, Ibibio Sound Machine, recently seen on the ‘Later.. with Jools Holland’ TV show on the BBC.

I first sang with Kari at the launch of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Ghana’s independence at London’s City Hall, and it was fantastic to work with him again. It’s really taken the songs to a completely new level.

One of my songs that Kari lends his brilliant guitar playing to is ‘Madamfo Pa Beko Agya Me’ which translates in the Ghanaian language of Twi as ‘If My Best Friend Left Me’, and representing the Adinkra symbol of Friendship on the EP. He also plays on my original song ‘Nsoromma’, representing the Nsoromma Adinkra symbol, and translating as ‘Stars’ in Twi.

As a special thank you for being one of my subscribers I want to give you ‘Madamfo Pa Beko Agya Me’ for free – with no strings attached. Download my version of Madamfo Pa Beko Agya Me here

If you like the track then please check out my “Adinkra” EP. It’s my latest EP, and it’s full of African Soul tunes that I hope you will love! 🙂
