More West Africa On Mainstream TV

Hello

Great to see more light-hearted West African shows on mainstream TV in the UK. This time it was Channel 4’s ‘Manhunting With My Mum’, featuring the UK/Blackburn-born presenter AJ Odudu, whose fun, show-stealing mum who takes her on a trip to Nigeria. Her mum’s on a mission to find her a husband, however the show seems to be more of a snapshot of different scenarios from modern-day culture, as AJ encounters everything, from how life would be as a wife in a royal household, to jet-setting with a Nollywood filmstar Timini. Her mum, Florence, is hilarious, the voice of tradition, but with a serious dose of humour. A stand out moment was when AJ pointed out women carrying stuff on their head with amazement, and asks her if her mum really had to do that, to which she replies “Of course! Blimey.” Very funny. It’s a great watch. Check it out for the next 3 weeks on 4OD here

As usual, do let me know what you think in the comments below.
